bridestones
Bridestones are rocks that form a local landmark; standing out on our moorland. The moor tops are bleak and sparse, deforested over a thousand years ago but trees still grow around their skirts, clinging to the steep sides of cloughs. Above the tree line, peat has formed from layers of vegetation. During dry periods, it is weathered by the wind, exposing and shaping rocks and outcrops.
